1997. San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. “Chicken and Chips” was fast becoming the predominant ‘Fast Food’ in Trinidad and Tobago. We recognized that a lot of newly opened Fast Food Eateries did not serve foods that were Halal, ignoring the needs of the Muslim Community of Trinidad. Having worked in various eateries during the 80s, we were familiar with the various procedures involved in operating such a business enterprise. After some consideration, we decided to undertake a Partnership venture, the result of which was the creation of the Original BBQ Hut, a Fast Food Restaurant where Halal foods are served, which could be enjoyed by both Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
The original location was on South Trunk Road, Bel Air, La Romaine, at a simple venue consisting of two tents and five tables. Soon thereafter, we developed our famous sauce - the recipe for which is still a secret - and with this, we experienced phenomenal growth, surpassing all expectations. Due to this growth and other changes occurring within the Business, the venue was relocated to Cipero Road, Victoria Village, San Fernando. Following further expansion, by 2008 we registered the business as a limited liability company (The Original Bar B Que Hut Ltd). As our establishment increased in size we also had to streamline our workflow so that our customers could still get their orders within minutes, even with long lines.
Today The Original BBQ Hut Ltd. resides on 3 3/4 acres of prime real estate, with a staff of over 50 workers. We are now aided by our children (Cashmirr, Kamron, Abdul-Qadir, Khadijah, Celine, Aleem, Jelena, Aleemah, Alaina, and Ahmad) in the running of the business, meaning that our business is now, more than ever before, a family establishment. Our Barbecue is prized by people throughout the world, and we are renowned for having one singular location.
